This came to my attention from my good bud Monte, and it’s actually pretty funny. (Is this what my friends think of me?!) Anywho, enjoy!

A couple of tracks that are on the playlist from ASOT 369. The second being a new mashup of Silence, which is quite an old track, but still great.

Online petition concerning Sacrifice Medal

by Scoutn on 16. September 2008 19:00,
under Categories: General

Canada.com is running a story outlining details of a online petition started by the parents of fallen soldiers who lost their lives in non-combat incidents. However, they forgot (or declined to) link to the petition.

The Sacrifice Medal was created to recognize (sic) a member of the Canadian Forces, a member of an allied force, or a Canadian civilian under the authority of the Canadian Forces who, as of  October 7, 2001, died or was wounded under honourable circumstances as a direct result of hostile action.
I'm not sure I agree with the 'hostile action' part. Just because a soldier is killed or wounded by friendly fire or an accident doesn't mean he didn't sacrifice anything less than a soldier who is killed or wounded in combat. Both soldiers are there to do a job and both paid the ultimate sacrifice. Why judge? I'm sure every soldiers death was the result of being in a highly stressful situation whether it was an accident or not. Give these soliders the credit they deserve. Drawing a line is not only a slap in the face to the parents of these soldiers but it's also diminishing the role they may have played. Who knows what these soldiers did for their comrades before they died? The bottom line is that they were there. Get a grip Ottawa. <edit>To top it off they spelt recognise incorrectly. FFS.</edit>

Supporting the troops

by Scoutn on 10. September 2008 21:27,
under Categories: General

I'm on the fence. I'll admit it. While I support the troops, do I support the mission?

I've been one that has said that if one supports the troops, one supports the mission. It's an oxymoron not to; one cannot support fighting without supporting the cause. I hear a lot of "I support the troops, but I don't support the mission".

I'm not naive and I know that conflict brings casualties, but I don't want our troops dying while fighting in conflicts that are happening halfway around the world. I don't. The one thing I was proud of PM Chretien for was refusing to support the US in Iraq. He made a stand, and I was proud of him for it.

Soldiers are being killed for trying to make a better life for the Afgan people. Should we be there? History tells us we should be but it's hard to swallow. I could have been one of those men fighting overseas. I have a real hard time accepting that our troops are dying trying to make a difference in a world I don't know. Especially when I have spoken to soldiers and know how they are unequipped, unprepared, and under appreciated.

Yet they still go. I guess that is what makes us Canadian. Willing to sacrifice not only for own, but others. If anything makes us unique and gives us an identity that has to be it. While it pains me to hear of Canadian soldiers dying; I support the cause. I have to.

Not doing so is not Canadian.

Trance Wednesday, Ep. 5

by Scoutn on 10. September 2008 19:08,
under Categories: General | Trance Wednesday | trance

I can't imagine being a DJ and trying to do a weekly set! (Well I can, but I digress. Maybe I missed my calling.) At any rate, this week I am picking two tracks. The first I always turn up a little bit when I am work, and the other is from two powerhouses in trance, Armin and DJ Shah.

Embrace - Embrace (Ferry Colsten)

Armin van Buuren & DJ Shah Feat. Chris Jones - Going Wrong

This will be the last day I import my blog into Facebook, so if you're visiting from there, you'll no longer get updates unless you visit my site or subscribe to my RSS feed with your favourite reader. I plan on posting more than just trance every week!

So I don’t forget…

by Scoutn on 5. September 2008 20:16,

I’ll forget this track if I don’t put it somewhere to remind me. I have so much trance in my collection that when I hear something I tend to listen to it and then forget it after a while. Anyway, I don’t want this track to be one of those. Heck, this could even be a [...]

Trance Wednesday, Ep. 4

under Categories: General | Trance Wednesday | trance

I wasn't quite sure what I was going to post tonight mainly because I am having a hard time deciding what kind of mood I am in. I wanted to post a Jennifer Rene track and I was torn between two - Louder and Wouldn't Change a Thing - but luckily "Dj SeBaStiAn" already mixed them on YouTube. His other mixes aren't bad either.

Jose Amnesia feat. Jennifer Rene - Wouldn't Change A Thing

Jose Amnesia feat. Jennifer Rene - Louder

Marc Marberg With Kyau And Albert - Neo Love (Original mix)

I hate you too!

What a freaking awesome weekend I just had! Usually I'm not one for the back trails er, trail by the gun club, but it proved enough for the two nights we went out. Tons of laughs, awesome company, and great quading.

I learned a few lessons:

  • Wear goggles.
  • Wear goggles below helmet visor so you don't lose them.
  • When wearing a MP3 player on your quad, hang on to it; it doesn't float.
  • Hang on tight when you're a passenger.
  • When one knows the trail, one should lead. (Okay, that's a debatable one.)
  • Carry a fire extinguisher.
  • Some people would rather be reading than be knee deep in mud. (Heh heh.)
  • LIFE IS TOO SHORT!!!

All in all, this was probably the best weekend I have had this summer for various reasons. I'll take the mud, losing equipment, damaging my quad and being hungover beyond comprehension over watching TV all weekend any day.

And to think, if you win this quad, you could be part of it next time. (Or you could keep it clean like others I know with a Can-Am. Heh heh.)

Hat tip to Silverdale; they never let me down.

Click the pic for the full set.
