If there is one thing that I can be optimistic about in these uncertain economic times, it's that Canadians are getting involved. While I don't post a lot about politics on my site, I do hold a passing interest in what is going on. What is curious to me is the amount of interest the general public is displaying.
It's in our nature as Canadians to be laid back. We bark up for a few days and then the media moves on to another subject and we forget about it. (AdScam is one. Who would vote liberal after that joke?!) We roll with the punches I guess.
This time around it seems different. It's good to see rallies supporting both sides of the coalition front. It means people are getting engaged enough in their own country to get outside and make themselves seen and heard. I wonder if an election was held today how many people would get out and vote? I can say with all certainty that it wouldn't be a record low turnout.
I don't appreciate what is happening with Canadian politics right now, but I am happy about one after-effect; involvement. You have a right to speak your mind and get engaged by what is going on. Just don't forget about it when the media switches to another topic. This is your country and you have a say in how it is lead.
Just think; if those of you that couldn't get off your lazy ass actually did cast a vote, would we be in this mess? Who knows.
