Frankly, I don't give two shits about politics. Every politician, besides one, seems to me at least, sneaky, dishonest, and out of touch. I want my future children to have a good education, I would like good health care, and I would love to pay lower taxes. (50% of each dollar I make goes to the government.)
With the federal election upcoming, I am still unsure of who I will be voting for. The NDP will not be able to grab my vote, only because it's a wasted vote and I've heard some things about Jack Layton before he became the leader of the NDP that will forever tarnish my opinion of him. Sorry Jack. While you speak a good game and I wish I could believe you and part of me wishes more Canadians would support you, it's just not going to happen.
The Liberals. Ah the Liberals. I have been a "supporter" of the Liberals ever since I could vote. (Hey look at that; 12 years, as long as they have been running the country.) Now, I just can't allow my vote, something my Grandfather fought and was injured in the war for, to be squandered on a party that wasted so much money with reckless abandon. Am I any farther ahead than I was 12 years ago? Maybe; only because I worked hard on my own and did something for myself. I don't feel my country has done anything for me. (Before you ask; yes, I've done something for my country: I've beared arms for it.) With AdScam I don't think I will ever trust the Liberals again until those currently in the party are dead and gone.
Besides, the Liberals wish to ban handguns, and take away property that law-abiding Canadians legally own. While I can understand why some - if not most - people feel that owning a handgun is not a necessity or practical, even if one is an avid sport shooter, I do not agree that the country I gave my time to training to defend it with my life has the right just to decide that I am unable to safely own a handgun. In fact, I do not keep any firearms in my home. Why should I? I live in the city. Some people do not have the benefit of having another place to safely store their firearms, but that does not mean that they automatically become criminals, which is what the Liberals plan to do with their legislation.
Legitimate target shooters who meet strict requirements would be eligible for a narrow exemption to the ban, which would be established in partnership with the provinces and territories. Special measures would be enacted to ensure that shooting competitions can take place in Canada and that Canadian participants in major multi-disciplinary sporting competitions â such as the Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games â can legally own their handgun.
I hate to point this out, but every single person who legally owns a handgun RIGHT NOW is a Legitimate target shooter. People who are not involved in the community do not realise what it takes to obtain a license to own a handgun. This is exactly why we are so opposed to the legislation. If the Liberals wish to make a criminal out of me, simply for the hobby I enjoy, I will become one.
I don't know enough about the Progressive Conservatives to form an opinion. I know what I don't like of the other parties, so that leaves me with these guys. Watching the debate, Stephen Harper looked like he was being coached from someone standing behind the camera. Who really smiles after every sentence? And I am supposed to vote for this guy?
No one from the PC party came to my house to introduce me to their platform, something I was used to seeing in the past. In fact, not one party came to my door. (And people wonder why the voter turnout is so low.) I have the nagging feeling that Stephen Harper has been bought off and/or funded by the Americans to run the country, and if that is the case, we're all in for a world of hurt.
The problem I have with the PC party is that while they preach a positive change will be forthcoming, all I see on their website is negativity! "Martin record of broken promises", "Liberal fiscal forecasting: A record of being wrong", "Liberalsâ campaign costs continue to rise". For crying out loud, when I come to your website I want to know what you are about, what you stand for, what you plan to do for me and my family! All this bullshit below a heading that reads "A new Conservative government offers positive change"! You're not changing one thing!
Politics is about fear and invoking a sense of negativity and dishonesty upon the other party. When will the state of politics focus on what one party can do for Canada instead of focusing on what the other can't? I know it is probably the same everywhere else in the world, but calling for change and preaching the same old shit, well, it just gets annoying. And sad.
I might just destroy my ballot or heck, vote for the NDP after all.
