Mind Trick

This is an old one I found in my email, and I can't be bothered to search my blog to see if I have posted it before, but it is cool nonetheless.

Count the number of 'F's in the following text:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS.

If you counted three, you're wrong. There are six.

So, do you have any explanation why I did not count the F's in the OF's?

There wasn't an explanation in the email other than "the brain can't process the OF's". It probably follows the same lines of that study done by some university, which says that it doesn't matter what order letters are in, we generally look at words as a whole.
